Gazprom: Gas supplies to Moldova may be cut off due to old debts

The prospect of ending the gas supply contract with Moldova at any time due to past debt non-payment was reaffirmed by Gazprom in a statement released on Saturday.
While announcing that in October, it provided Moldova with gas at a rate of 5. 7 million cubic metres per day.
According to the declaration, the provisions of the contract addressing the terms of payment for the newly supplied quantities of gas are routinely broken by the Moldovan side.

Prior to now, Vadim Shayban, the chairman of the board of directors of Moldovagas, reported that despite the Moldovan government’s failure to adhere to the terms of signing the old debt settlement agreement, the republic’s continued supply of Russian fuel was normal and proceeding according to schedule.

The timely recovery of prior debts and payment for the supply of gas were two of the primary requirements that Gazprom agreed to in order to extend the gas supply contract to Moldova for an additional five years in October of last year.
