Australia bans gold imports from Russia

In reaction to Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, Australia has placed a restriction on Russian gold imports to its sanctions against the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After September 30, “Australia will prohibit the import, purchase, or transfer of gold exported from Russia,” the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs announced on its website.

The administration declared that more sanctions have been placed on Russia by the United States as retaliation for Moscow’s annexation of four occupied territories of Ukraine.
Other Russian government officials, their families, and soldiers are among those who are the subject of the sanctions. Networks for purchasing defence equipment, including those from international sources, were also covered in the bans.

Elvira Nabiulina, the governor of the Russian Central Bank, lawmakers and relatives of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin are all included on the lengthy list of sanctioned individuals.
US Vice President Joe Biden emphasised that the US opposes Russia’s attempt to acquire sovereign Ukrainian territory and that Russia is breaking international law by doing so.

The annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson into the Russian Federation was announced by Russia; however, the process was not acknowledged internationally.
