Two lawsuits target Wisconsin policy on absentee ballots

AP – Madison, Wisconsin As the next development in the ongoing legal battle that has pitted conservatives against liberals in the battleground state of Wisconsin, two lawsuits filed this week argue that election clerks in Wisconsin should be permitted to accept absentee ballots that are missing portions of witness addresses.

The lawsuits follow a judge in Waukesha County circuit court siding with Republicans in September and ruling that election officials cannot complete blanks on the form that acts as an envelope for absentee ballots.
The judge overturned Wisconsin Elections Commission guidelines that had been in place for six years, claiming that clerks could fill in the blanks.

Wisconsin’s absentee ballot policy is the subject of two lawsuits.
