Creator’s Stone meteorite to be returned to original site in Alberta

In order to repatriate an old meteorite to its original site, the Alberta government and a First Nations organisation have signed a contract.
Manitou Asiniy, often referred to as the Creator’s Stone or the Manitou Stone, is a 145-kilogram iron meteorite that fell near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border in the Iron Creek region billions of years ago.
Indigenous inhabitants on the Prairies had a spiritual connection to the stone, which they believed would guard the buffalo herds.

In the late 1800s, it was transferred to Toronto, after which it was taken to the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton.
Indigenous organisations and the museum began talking in 2002 about how to handle the stone.
According to Elder Leonard Bastien, it’s crucial for everyone to feel again peaceful, prosperous, hopeful, and healed.
