Qatar will host the AFC U-23 Football Cup

News from Al Madinah: During its fifth meeting, held today, Friday, in the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur, the AFC Competitions Committee chose to recommend Qatar as the location for the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship.

The committee that looked at five candidate files, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan, chose Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup from November 20 to December 18, after carefully examining all of the candidate files and evaluating all of the key factors.

The Committee decided to recommend that the Executive Office suspend the application of the rules of operations applicable in the AFC competitions during the Covid-19 pandemic as of 2023 as a result of the fall in the pandemic’s impact on the continent of Asia.

The Committee members were also aware of the difficulties several national federations and clubs encountered while competing in the tournaments as they looked for solutions to the problems brought on by this pandemic.
