To the applause, Putin announces the annexation of 4 Ukrainian regions

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of four Ukrainian regions, including Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as Zaporizhia and Kherson, to his country after the Red Square in the heart of Moscow was decorated with flags and hundreds of Russian officials attended the Kremlin. He stressed that this decision had finally been made and that the residents of those regions had become Russian citizens.

Putin pledged to reconstruct those cities in response to the enthusiastic applause, ensuring the safety and security of their citizens.
Earlier today, the Kremlin declared that it would need to “clarify” whether the annexation covered the entirety of Zaporizhia and Kherson or just the areas under Russian authority.

After Moscow acknowledged the sovereignty of the two separatist regimes it considers to be loyal to it at the end of February, prior to the launch of its military campaign on the territory of its western neighbour, Donetsk and Lugansk will be completely secure.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russians hold a 72 percent majority in Zaporizhia while also holding an 88 percent majority in Kherson and its city, both by the same name.

Putin declares the takeover of 4 Ukrainian districts to cheers.
