Russia and Ukraine are currently engaged in a crisis as a result of Moscow’s effort to annexe 4 areas of Ukraine, which the UN Security Council is getting ready to formally denounce.

Vladimir Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, delivered a greeting on this occasion, invoking Imam Shamil, the anti-Russian legend of the Caucasus, who was admired even by his adversaries for his valour in fending off the Russian occupation of his time.
When Zelensky invoked Imam Shamil, he was speaking to a group of Caucasian Russians of various ethnic backgrounds.

The Ukrainian president declared that what was happening could be stopped, but that the people needed to “stand up and resist.” He also accused Russia of bringing death, torture, rape, and destruction.
The president of Ukraine also welcomed Russian opposition to the Kremlin’s initiative to partially mobilise army reserves.
According to Zelensky, 58,000 Russians died in Ukraine.

He continued by warning individuals who had been called up to get their names tattooed on their bodies so that their remains could be returned to their families because many Russian soldiers would be sent into battle without insignia or documents to prevent them from being recognised.
