The European Union’s efforts fail to defuse the tension between Serbia and Kosovo

The European Union’s efforts to defuse tension between Serbia and Kosovo failed in talks in Brussels.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Corte did not accept the European Union’s proposal to reduce the escalation, according to the Supreme Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, after eight hours of negotiations, but Serbian President Alexander Fuzic was supportive.

Borrell said that the proposal provides a medium solution to resolve a dispute over a new list of car plates by the Kosovo government, which states that the auto numbers issued by the Serbs will not be allowed anymore for the residents of Kosovo.
This list came in response to the fact that Serbia does not recognize the paintings that Kosovo recorded since its independence in 2008.

The proposal, in the total of matters, states that the authorities in Kosovo should suspend the measures that implement the new rule. On the other hand, Serbia will need to stop issuing new numbers panels for people in Kosovo.
Many Serbs resigned earlier this month from their positions in Kosovo’s institutions such as the police, the judiciary, parliament and municipalities..
