Magnitude 7.0 earthquake strikes off coast of Solomon Islands

A magnitude 7. 0 earthquake has struck off the coast of the Solomon Islands.
The large tremor was just 13. 6 kilometres deep and struck around 3:15pm today.
Agencies initially listed the earthquake as a 7. 3, but USGS has since downgraded it to a 7. 0.
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre says there is no threat of a tsunami there.
However, tsunami buoys have been triggered and the official US tsunami monitoring agency issued the following bulletin around 3:40pm.

“Tsunami waves reaching 0. 3 to 1 metres above the tide level are possible for some coasts of Solomon Islands.
“Tsunami waves are forecast to be less than 0. 3 meters above the tide level for the coasts of Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. ”
There have been no reports of damage from the islands at this early stage.
A reporter based in the capital Honiara told 1News “all is OK so far”.
