Bamako prohibits the activities of NGOs funded by Paris

The Military Council in Mali announced the ban on the activities of all NGOs funded or supported by France, including those working in the humanitarian field.
In a statement posted on social media, the Transitional Prime Minister, Colonel Abdullah Maija, attributed this decision to the declaration of Paris recently to suspend its general assistance to development in Mali.

On Thursday, the French Foreign Ministry announced that Paris had stopped its Mali’s development aid after completing the withdrawal of its forces from the country, against the background of allegations of the use of Bamako with fighters from the Russian Wagner Group.

The Military Council, which seized in August 2020 in Mali, denies resorting to this group, which denotes several countries, and stresses that it brought in Russian military trainers as part of military cooperation between the two countries.
In his statement, Colonel Maiga denounced “fictional allegations” and “an excuse aimed at deceiving national and international public opinion and manipulating them with the aim of destabilizing and isolating financial stability.

“As a result, the transitional government decided to immediately prohibit all activities of NGOs working in Mali with funding or material or technical support from France, including that humanitarian worker,” he added..
