The Ecuador team settled the opening match of the 22nd edition of the World Cup at the expense of its Qatari counterpart, 2-0, in the confrontation that took place between them at the “Al-Bayt” stadium in Al-Khor City, on Sunday evening.
Ener Valencia scored the first goal for the Ecuador team by a penalty kick in the 16th minute of the match, then the player himself added the second goal of the guest team in the 31st minute of the match.
Qatar and its Ecuadorian counterpart are competing in the first group of the twenty -second edition of the World Cup, which includes the teams of the Netherlands and Senegal.
The Netherlands team will meet Senegal in the other confrontation in the first group, which is scheduled to be held at six in the evening tomorrow, Monday, at the “Thumama” stadium, which can accommodate about 40 thousand spectators.
The World Cup 2022 is the first ever to be held in the Arab world, and the second that is held in the continent of Asia after the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan, as it is the first time in history that the tournament has been held during the winter.
The Qatari team, led by its Spanish coach, Flex Sanchez, recorded its first appearance in the World Cup finals, as it booked its seat as the country hosting the tournament.
While Ecuador participated in the World Cup for the fourth time in its history, after it had previously participated in 3 previous World Cup versions in 2002, 2006, and 2014.
