The start of voting in the parliamentary elections in Nepal

On Sunday, voters in Nepal went to the polling stations to cast their votes in the country’s parliamentary elections, in the hope that a new government will achieve political stability and help in developing the state located in the Himalayas.

The American “ABC News” network stated that the main competitors in today’s elections are the ruling coalition consisting of the Nepalese Congress Party led by Prime Minister Sher Shador Duba and the Communist Mawi Party, and in return the Nepalese Communist Party (Marxist Leninist) headed by former Prime Minister Khadja Brasad first.

The American network added that security has been strengthened throughout the country, as a communist group, famous for violence in the past, called for boycotting the elections and threatened to obstruct the elections, noting that on Sunday a national holiday was announced, and private and public vehicles were prevented from walking in the streets.

The voters in the main field in the heart of the capital, Kathmandu, lined up to cast their votes when the polling stations opened their doors at seven in the morning local time of the country.
It is expected that the results of the elections will take days, as some polls must be transferred from the remote mountainous villages, and once all votes are counted, members elected in Parliament will choose a prime minister who must obtain support for half of the total members..
