The Norwegian government announced today, Monday, its intention to provide financing of 2 billion Norwegian chrons (195 million US dollars) to help Ukraine to buy natural gas this winter.

The government said, in a statement reported by the American “CNN” network, that funding is part of a package of 10 billion Norwegian krns (976 million US dollars) allocated by the Norwegian government to Ukraine in 2022 and 2023, adding that the amount will be directed through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The Norwegian Finance Minister Tregv Selwagsfold Vidum said that Ukraine has in particular asked his country to support the purchase of natural gas this winter, stressing that the time factor is extremely important and the importance of directing support through an internationally recognized organization to ensure effective and transparent use of financing.

He added that the Ukrainian Energy Company, “Naftogaz”, will be the official gas recipient in Ukraine, while payments will be paid directly to the European gas suppliers..
