Guterres expresses his regret for the failure of COB 27 to address the issue of reducing emissions

UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres expressed his deep regret, on Sunday, as the Conference on the Climate Climate COB 27 in Sharm El Sheikh failed to develop a plan to “radically reduce emissions”.
Guterres stressed, “Our planet is still in the emergency department. We need a radical reduction in emissions now and this is a matter that this climate conference has not dealt with,” Guterres stressed.

The European Union also expressed its disappointment on Sunday from the agreement on the emissions reached at the Conference of the Parties on the Climate Climate COB 27.
“What we have is not sufficient as a step forward and does not bring additional efforts from the senior polluted to increase their emissions and accelerate their emissions,” he stressed, “Our hope is not to achieve this.

In the same context, French President Emmanuel Macron considered that the establishment of a fund to compensate the developing countries for the “losses and damages” that they are suffering from the climate crisis is a “long, not enough” solution, on the sidelines of his participation in the Francophone summit in Tunisia.
“The idea of creating only a fund is at worst inappropriate, and at best, it is not largely insufficient,” Macron said during a press conference.

“Once we face a problem, we create a box, what about governance? Who will contribute to money?” He added.
The French President’s comment came shortly after the Climate Conference on the Climate (COP 27) in Sharm El -Sheikh, Egypt, reached an agreement on the issue of compensation for the climatic damage suffered by poor countries.

A European source told Agence France Presse that “an agreement was reached” on the establishment of a special fund to compensate for losses and damages, “directs” money to the most vulnerable countries towards the climate crisis.
The issue of damage to the climate crisis has become more than ever in the heart of discussions after the unprecedented floods that Pakistan and Nigeria witnessed.

South countries have stressed since the beginning of this conference the establishment of a special fund dedicated to compensating for these damages.
On the other hand, the rich countries have reserved for years the idea of establishing a special mechanism to finance these damages, fearing that they will face legal responsibility that may open the door to endless compensation..
