American basketball player Britney Grainer reported that the Russian authorities transferred the Olympic star convicted of a drug case to a remote detainee to spend her punishment there.
“Britney began to spend her punishment at the iC2+ in Mordovia,” lawyers Maria Blaghovolina and Alexander Boikov said in a statement.

The “IC2” punitive settlement is located in the town of Yafas in the Central Mordovia region known as its cruel climate, and according to the Russian Federal Prison Circle, the settlement includes more than 800 prisoners living in barracks.
Mordovia also includes the “ICK 17” settlement in which Paul Willian, a retired USA, follows his sentence after being convicted of spying and sentenced him to 16 years in prison in 2020.

Russian punitive settlements are famous for the harsh treatment of prisoners, unhealthy conditions and the lack of appropriate care.
Activists say that violations and torture are spread in the widespread prison network in Russia, which replaced the Golag regime during the era of Stalin.
