The Council of Ministers announced the approval of raising the compulsory price for the purchase of rice in the markets to 18 pounds per kilo, for some luxurious types.
The council said in a statement that it approved a legal project stipulating that some rice companies are excluded from implementing the provisions of Cabinet Resolution No. 66 of 2022.

66 of 2022 stipulated that the sale of rice in the local market at 12 pounds per kilo of rice and 15 pounds per kilo of packed rice.
But a large number of companies, especially those that produce luxury rice, complained that these prices will not make profitability, which made the Minister of Supply study an exception to them to raise prices on the mandatory price according to a decision officially submitted to the Ministry to be studied and approved.
The council added that the companies that will get an exception to implement the decision are the ones that produce the luxurious white rice, in which the fracture rate does not exceed 3%, provided that it is a luxurious mobilization packed, and that the sale price does not exceed 18 pounds per kilo..
