Two consecutive fires at Baghdad airport toppled three senior managers

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a Al -Sudani was exempted today, Thursday, three officials from their positions, against the background of a fire, the second of its kind in the Baghdad International Airport Hall within three days.
The fire extended to the Nineveh Hall for the two -storey dawn personalities, according to an official statement issued by the Civil Defense Directorate.

Al -Sudani went to the airport and “stressed the follow -up of the investigation to determine the real reasons behind the repetition of” fires in recent days, according to what his office announced.
As a result, he decided to exempt both the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, the director of Baghdad International Airport and the Director of Airport Security from their duties against the background of the two fires.

The civil defense statement indicated that “the fire that broke out on the ground floor of the VIP lounge and a number of travel offices and civil defense teams was forced to break the locks and enter these burning offices to finish extinguishing and cooling work without registering human injuries while limiting material damage.

The statement added, “The request of the civil defense to open an investigation and summon the expert of criminal evidence to raise samples and determine the reasons for the outbreak of the fire. ” A limited fire broke out on Tuesday in one of the airport halls, with three simple suffocation.

The Iraqi Prime Minister asked the National Security Agency and the Directorate of Civil Defense to conduct an immediate and comprehensive examination of the safety and emergency reserves system at the airport and review all security measures applied in all its facilities, halls and buildings.
Baghdad International Airport has not been subjected to any major update since its inauguration in the eighties of the last century during the era of the late President Saddam Hussein.

Safety standards are neglected, whether in the transportation or construction sector. The tragedies are often repeated in a country whose infrastructure is considered dilapidated.
Since his assumption of the prime minister last October, the Sudanese faces an enormous political, social and economic problems, while he had pledged to address many of the incendiary files that are a heavy legacy inherited by successive Iraqi governments.

The causes of the two fires were not clear at Baghdad International Airport, but many consider that the rally of the greeting in addition to negligence and neglect is clear, sufficient reasons for the occurrence of many disasters in institutions that are vital facilities, including Baghdad Airport..
