Turkey: We make efforts to extend the general grain agreement

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday that he believes that the grain export agreement in which the United Nations has mediated between Russia and Ukraine will be extended after the end of its validity on November 19, adding that Ankara is making efforts to extend it for a year.

Erdogan told a press conference during the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, that talks on the extension of the agreement are continuing, stressing that it is important to the world, according to Reuters.
It is noteworthy that the agreement signed between Russia and Ukraine last July, under the auspices of Turkey and the United Nations, ends on Saturday. It allowed the export of about 10 million tons of Ukrainian grains.

On Monday, the Kremlin revealed that the talks with the United Nations last week on an agreement to protect the shipping of grains from Ukrainian ports were “somewhat constructive”, which revived the hope that it could be extended smoothly.
The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added to reporters: “talks took place with the United Nations last week were somewhat constructive. We have an interest in this agreement, which was already part of the entire agreement mechanism.

It is noteworthy that prominent United Nations officials met with a Russian delegation in Geneva on Friday to discuss Moscow complaints about the initiative of grain export across the Black Sea.
Russia is calling for the possibility of its exports of food and fertilizers without obstacle to the global markets in exchange for approval of the extension of the Black Sea agreement to be renewed next Saturday.

Meanwhile, Moscow has noted that it may withdraw from the agreement if it has no progress regarding its concerns..
