Climate activists in Austria attacked a painting drawn by Gustave Clemet, “Death and Life”, where one of them threw a black oil liquid on it and another paste himself on the glass covering the plate.
The members of what is known as the last generation activists were tweeting that they targeted the painting in 1915 death and life in the Leopold Museum in Vienna to protest their government’s use of fossil fuel.

After the questioner threw the artwork that was not damaged, one of the museum’s guards pushed one of the activists away while another activist paste his hand on the glass over the painting, and the activists said they were protesting about “oil and gas excavation”, what they described as “the death sentence for society”.

In a video of the accident posted by the group on the Internet, one of the activists heard screaming: “We learned about the problem 50 years ago we must move finally, otherwise the planet will break. ”
After the attack, the police arrived at the museum and the black liquid brought by activists in a hot water bottle under their clothes was cleaned from the protective glass, according to the Austrian news agency.

The museum’s restoration team said later that although the painting itself was not damaged, the damage to the glass and the security frame, in addition to the wall and the floor was “clear and large. ”
“But attacking artwork is definitely a wrong way to implement the target goal of preventing the expected climate collapse. ” The group appealed to the search for other ways to disclose their fears.

The Austrian Minister of Culture also expressed his understanding of “fears as well as the despair of” activists, but criticized the form of their protest..
