The United Nations General Assembly calls for Russian compensation for Ukraine

Al-Madinah News:- The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution, on Monday, calling for Russia accountable to violate international law by attacking Ukraine, and the decision included payment of compensation.
The vote in the General Assembly, which includes 193 members, came with the approval of 94 votes compared to the rejection of 14 votes and the abuse of 73.

This was the lowest level to support 5 decisions adopted by the association related to Ukraine since the start of the Russian attack on February 24.
The decision recognizes the need to put an “international mechanism to compensate for damage, losses, or injuries” resulting from the “unjust acts” that Russia committed against Ukraine.

It recommends that member states, in cooperation with Ukraine, establish an “international record” documenting allegations and information related to damage, loss or injury to the Ukrainians and the government because of Russia.
Veto Rossi in the Security Council, consisting of 15 members, prevented the most influential entity in the United Nations from taking any move against President Vladimir Putin since his decision to launch the attack.

However, no objections to the General Assembly were issued when they earlier adopted four decisions criticizing the Russian attack.
Contrary to the Security Council resolutions, the decisions of the General Assembly are not legally binding, but it reflects the global opinion and showed a widespread opposition to the Russian military action.
