Volcker Turk condemned the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to the sharp rise in the number of civilian victims due to the armed youth attacks in Somalia, noting that this rise in the number of victims has exacerbated the human rights situation and the dark humanitarian situation of the Somalia people.

Turk expressed deep concern because more Somalis are still losing their lives on a daily basis . . He called on the Somali government to take all necessary steps in cooperation with the international community to enhance the protection of civilians in line with international human rights rules and standards and international humanitarian law.
