The UAE “Gulf” highlights the threat of terrorist groups in Africa

In an editorial published today, Sunday, the Emirati newspaper “Al-Khaleej” expressed legitimate worries that several African nations will fall under the control of terrorist organisations that have spread across the continent and turned into a criminal fang, particularly in the east and sub-Saharan regions where bombings are increasing. The kidnapping, the systematic targeting of official institutions and strategic sites, and the accompanying looting of wealth, and smuggling them in various ways, with the enabling of these groups to obtain huge financial resources.

The newspaper also noted that for years, particularly after the success of international efforts to put an end to terrorist projects in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan and to lessen their threats, the African continent has become a favourite destination for extremist organizations, benefiting from the spread of conflicts, weak countries, and problems. Terrorist organisations look to capitalise on social, economic, and even climate change effects in areas experiencing drought or flooding because these catastrophes drive millions of people from their homes or leave them open to blackmail and haggling. In Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon, the extremist“ youth ”movement is trying to follow it in Somalia.

The newspaper cited the UAE’s remarks on the fight against terrorism in Africa during a Security Council meeting, which confirmed the need for an integrated strategy that incorporates all of the international community’s resources and that local contexts of this threat be taken into account. In this context, I presented a strategy that demanded the modernization of international law.

Without exception, it must be addressed, including the extremist “youth” movement that supports Somalia and the atrocities carried out against its youth and children.

The newspaper urged saving the African continent from the threat of terrorism because the continent is vast, it suffers from poverty, hunger, diseases, conflicts, and external interventions, and these factors create a fertile environment in which terrorism is brought up, and the crime is growing, which robs the rights of entire peoples in security, development, and peace. The effects of that will be reflected in the entire world, and since Africa, which is brown, suffers from poverty, hunger, and diseases, as well as conflicts,

.

The UAE’s “Gulf” emphasises the danger posed by terrorist organisations in Africa.
