The Minister of Agriculture discusses with the Deputy Director of Al -Faw, the mechanisms of implementing the sustainable transformation initiative “Fast”

Mr. Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Maria Helena Simido, Deputy Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization “FAO”, met on the sidelines of the COP27 climate currently held in Sharm El Sheikh and discussed with it the mechanisms of implementing the Fast Sustainable Transformation Initiative.

During the meeting, Al -Qusayr praised the role of the FAO during the preparation of the climate summit and also cooperation in preparing and launching the sustainable transformation initiative (FST), and said that there are also historical relations and great cooperation with the FAO in many joint agricultural projects with the Ministry of Agriculture.

“Al -Qusayr” suggested that a coordination meeting with Al -Faw after the end of the climate summit ended to adopt a plan and set a mechanism to implement the agreed initiatives during the summit, especially the Fast Sustainable Transformation Initiative, as well as the Green Middle East initiative launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister of Agriculture added that there is permanent support from the Egyptian political leadership to the African brothers, noting that the Egyptian initiative will be an umbrella for many projects in the field of agriculture and food security for many countries of the region.

He also pointed out that the agricultural sector still needs to cooperate in finding solutions to some problems, including the fragmentation of possession, which represents about 80 % of the land area in Egypt and Africa, as well as cooperation in finding mechanism for insurance on strategic crops.
During the short meeting, he also praised the employees of the FAO office in Cairo for their fruitful and constructive cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture.

For its part, “Simedo” expressed its happiness in its presence in Egypt and the participation of the climate summit, thanks to the Egyptian government and the leadership for this wonderful organization of the summit.

She pointed out that the agricultural sector for the first time is taken care of in climate conferences, and this is calculated for the Egyptian government and said that the Fast initiative launched by the Minister of Agriculture yesterday is the fruit of effort and cooperation between the organization and the ministry and full support will be provided to it and that it is consistent with all that the Minister of Agriculture opened during The meeting, and the two sides agreed to form a joint technical committee from the ministry and Faw to follow up the implementation of what was agreed, as well as follow -up of the climate summit outputs.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Nasr El -Din Haj Al -Amin, representative of Al -Faw in Egypt and Dr. Saad Musa, who is supervising external agricultural relations and some leaders of the ministry and the international organization..
