The Public Prosecution in Germany announced today, Monday, the arrest of a Moroccan citizen on suspicion of spying on supporters of the rural movement in northern Morocco.
The Karlsruoh Prosecution issued a statement in which it clarified that the police arrested the accused, known as Muhammad A. In the Cologne area, his house was searched.
The statement added that he was “strongly suspected” in his work for the Moroccan intelligence services, as the prosecution suspected that between April 2021 and 2022, he practiced spying for money on residents in Germany supporting what is known as the rural movement in northern Morocco.
The statement indicated that the accused “shared information about at least one person. ”
The accused in front of the two judge was ordered to put him in pretrial detention.
It should be noted that the movement appeared in the Al -Reef area in northern Morocco in 2016 after the death of the fish seller Mohsen Fikry, who was crushed by a garbage truck while trying to restore his goods after the police confiscated it, and the movement witnessed protests to demand development in the area inhabited by the majority of the Berber.
The popular protests led to the arrest of hundreds, while the movement’s leader, Nasser Al -Zafzafi, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for “participating in a conspiracy that affects the security of the state. ”
