Peron Castio came out of the Ecuador squad participating in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, despite the affirmation of the Sports Arbitration Court, the player’s right to play in the name of Ecuador.
Earlier this month, the Sports Court refused to appeal Chile to the participation of Castio with Ecuador during the qualifiers for him to play in the World Cup.
But coach Gustavo Alvaro decided not to call the player after deducting three points from the team’s balance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, in addition to a fine of one hundred thousand Swiss francs due to “providing documents containing false information”.
In September, the FIFA rejected the appeal of Chile after the complaint that Castio was born in Tomako, Colombia in 1995 and not at General Veamil Plasias in Ecuador in 1998, according to official documents.
The Sports Court stated that the Ecuadorian Union violated Article 21 of FIFA discipline regulations regarding providing documents containing false information.
Ecuador stressed the right to involve Castio, and the National Union said that it used correct criteria to include the player and that he would consider the following steps as he rejects the imposed punishment..
