Hirokazo Takahashi, assistant professor at Tokyo University, was interested in studying the impact of music on the activity of the brain and knowing the reason for raising feelings, so his team prepared 10 mice and 20 people to measure the movement of the head while listening to music by Motsart, Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
The researchers were surprised when they found that mice, just like humans participating in the experiment, move and shake their heads rhythm with music.
“This shows that the animal’s brain can be useful in clarifying the mechanisms of music in humans,” said Takahashi.
The research is the first of its kind that provides evidence that mice, like humans, have an innate sensor of music and rhythm, and without training.
