Washington: We welcome the initiative of Germany and Iceland on Iran’s protests

Iran’s Special Envoy for Iran, Robert Mali, announced today, Saturday, that the United States welcomes the initiative presented by Germany and Iceland, focusing the world’s attention on the violent “repression” of Iran against peaceful protesters.
On Friday, Germany and Iceland asked the UN Human Rights Council to hold a special meeting to discuss Iran’s human rights situation.

The German Foreign Minister Analeina Perbuk announced last Wednesday that the European Union intends to adopt new sanctions against Iran in response to the way Tehran dealt with the protests in the country since last September.
In contrast, Amnesty International reported on Thursday that it had evidence of at least 100 deaths in Sistan and Baluchistan since September 30 at the hands of Iranian security forces, including 16 children.

Iran has been witnessing protests in separate areas since last September, amid charges of the police of killing the young woman, Muhsa Amini, after being arrested on the pretext of wearing a “inappropriate” veil. The Iranian government, however, disputes that Amini was physically assaulted by police.

In addition, at least 326 people have been killed in the campaign to suppress the demonstrations that Iran has been witnessing since September, confirmed by the Human Rights Organization in NGO, which is based in Oslo.
Iran’s Human Rights Organization released a statement on its website stating that “at least 326 people, including 43 children and 25 women, were killed by security forces during demonstrations throughout the country.”

According to the numbers provided by this organization, the dead in the southeast Sistan Baluchistan Governorate, which is bordering Pakistan, number at least 123.

Washington: We applaud Germany and Iceland for taking the lead on the demonstrations in Iran.
