Toronto begins holiday season preparations with arrival of Christmas tree

The installation of a Christmas tree that will be nearly 17 metres tall will officially kick off the holiday season in Toronto on Saturday.
A crew of seven people will set up the naturally grown spruce tree from Baldwin, Ontario, in Nathan Phillips Square over the course of eight hours, the City of Toronto announced.
The tree will then take three days to settle before it can be decorated with lights and 500 ornaments, the city said.

The tree will be on display for the duration of the holiday season before being processed into mulch for planting new trees.
Starting on November 26, thousands of lights will cover the area in front of city hall as part of the Cavalcade of Lights.
The day will be marked by ice skating performances, musical events and the lighting of the new tree at 8:30 p. m..

With the arrival of the Christmas tree, Toronto begins holiday preparations.
