First Lady of Cyprus visits Saint Catherine Antiquities District

CAIRO – 8 November 2022: Saint Catherine’s Antiquities District received the First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus Andri Anastasiadi on the sidelines of her visit to Egypt to attend the  Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change COP27, which is currently being held in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Ahmed Adel, the director of Saint Catherine Antiquities Affairs, welcomed Anastasiadi and gave her a tour.

One of the most significant and distinctive Byzantine structures in Egypt and the entire world is Saint Catherine’s Monastery. The sacred bush tree where God spoke to Moses was one of its corners. It was built by Emperor Justinian in the sixth century AD.
The Fatimid Mosque, the library of St. Catherine’s Monastery, the exhibition of sacred icons, the Church of the Transfiguration, which houses the oldest mosaics from the sixth century AD, and other places were also visited.

It is important to note that over the past two days, a number of Egyptian archaeological sites and museums have seen an influx of official delegations attending the conference who have expressed a deep fascination with the ancient Egyptian civilization.
