America’s ambassador: The Libyan elections must be accelerated

Richard Norland, the American ambassador to Libya, urged the government to complete the constitutional framework and hold elections as soon as possible.
This came after his meeting with the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al -Dubba, on Tuesday evening, as the American ambassador stressed that “Libya has the technical ability to hold elections, and what it needs is political will, no more.

For his part, Dubai stressed during the meeting that the need for the international community to mobilise the obstacles that prevent the holding of the elections, the most significant of which is the constitutional base, which is still ambiguous, while also expressing the government’s readiness to play its role in the success of the elections.

The lack of agreement among Libyan political parties regarding the constitutional foundation of the electoral process, as well as disagreements regarding the requirements for presidential candidacy—the West Libyan camp opposes running in the military and for dual citizenship, while the East camp calls for an opportunity for everyone to run—have led to the discovery of the elections in Libya.

In order to resolve the current Libyan crisis, come to an agreement on election laws and constitutional provisions, and secure funding for elections, the international parties, led by the United States of America, are making significant efforts and applying significant pressure to the active forces in Libya.

Even now, there are no indications that Libyans will be able to quickly come to a solid agreement that will allow the country to hold parliamentary and presidential elections, ending the transitional phase and bringing the nation to stability.
On the other hand, military movements and parades by the Libyan army forces and the Libyan West forces loyal to the Dubai government have been noted, raising the possibility of armed conflict in the nation.
