Wisconsin judge won’t order sequestering of military absentee ballots

AP – Madison, Wisconsin Because doing so would be a “drastic remedy” that would result in voter disenfranchisement, a Wisconsin judge declined to order that military absentee ballots be separated and kept secret until it could be determined that they were cast legitimately.
The Republican chair of the Wisconsin Assembly’s elections committee along with a veterans group and other voters sued on Friday, seeking a court order to sequester the ballots.

After a two-hour hearing, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Maxwell made his decision from the bench on Monday.
He claims that the case raised concerns about whether the 1,800+ election clerks in the state of Wisconsin were properly informed by the nonpartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission of their responsibility to keep a list of eligible military voters.
