Iran for sports participation in an external competition without a veil: Do not represent us!

The Iranian Ministry of Sports denounced a sporting participation in an outside competition to ski without a veil on Tuesday, emphasising that it was not representing the Islamic Republic in an official capacity.

A number of Iranian athletes and mathematicians have taken symbolic actions over the past few weeks in support of the protests that have been taking place across the nation since September 16 in response to the death of Muhsa Amini, a young woman, days after she was arrested by the Ethics Police in Tehran, due to Iran’s lax dress code.
According to these regulations, all Iranian mathematicians who compete internationally for their nation cover their heads.

According to the Fars News Agency, the Ministry of Sports claimed that “Nilofer Mardani competed without permission in a wheel skiing competition on a circuit in Turkey.”
She continued by saying that she took part in the competition “personally” and that “this sport was not wearing the uniform of the Ministry’s approval.”
She emphasised that since last month, Mardani “is no longer part of the national squad” for this sport and that the Iranian team has not primarily competed.

Mardani won the competition in Istanbul while representing her class. According to local media, the cup was raised on the sixth of November on the platform without putting a veil on her head, and she wore a black cotton shirt on which “Iran” wrote in white.

The Iranian closer, Annaz Rakabi, participated in an Asian competition in October without a veil, but rather in the final competitions by placing a league on the head, in a move that was interpreted as support for the protests that followed the death of Amini.
Upon her arrival back in Tehran, dozens of people gathered outside the airport building to greet me.

The climate apologised “to the people of Iran because of the tensions it produced” in words to the official media, claiming that she forgot to wear the veil.

Iran: Do not represent us if you participate in sports in an outside competition without a face veil!
