BCAA outlines top four winter driving tips

Okanagan roads are covered in snow, ice, and slush, so BCAA is urging drivers to make sure their car is ready.
The top four winter driving tips have been outlined by BCAA to assist in keeping motorists secure and ready for the rapidly shifting weather patterns.
“The first tip, number one, is make sure you’ve got the right tires for the situation going on,” said BCAA Automotive Manager Josh Smythe.
“All-season and summer tyres aren’t as useful when it’s quite chilly outside.

So if you’re just installing tyres from last year, go ahead and put your winter tyres on and, of course, check the PSI.
Before you hit the road, BCAA advises checking your tyre pressure as well as your windshield wipers and car battery.
Again, you know that a cold exposes a lot of things that might be about to collapse, according to Smythe.

If your battery is four or five years old and in the summertime it was perhaps a bit of a slow crank but fired up every time for you, you might discover it leaving you behind.
To keep your battery charged, BCAA advises taking into account a battery maintainer. Battery maintainers are plug-in devices that are wired into the battery of your car and ordered online.

Meanwhile, BCAA is reminding drivers to restock emergency car kits with winter weather essentials including emergency snacks and water, reflective equipment, snow removal equipment, anti-freeze, washer fluid, winter tire chains and flashlights.
Additionally, BCAA advises drivers to slow down on roads and add extra travel time to their routines in order to account for changing road conditions.
