Additionally, 16 clubs are competing in the European League qualifier to earn a spot in the continental championship game. The Champions League provided half of these clubs when they finished third in the group stage, and the “Europa League” groups provided the other half.
The teams that finished first in their groups advanced directly to the next round, while the teams that finished second in the second round were pitted against the teams that finished third in their groups but were unable to advance further in the Champions League.
Given that these contests will be held in February and March, the defeated exit supplement is being applied to the home and away games.
