To avoid a wider conflict … US -Russian secret talks on Ukraine

According to the Wall Street Journal on Sunday, US authorities confirmed that US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had recently participated in private discussions with key Russian president assistants in an effort to lessen the likelihood of a wider conflict over Ukraine.
The officials, who declined to be identified by the newspaper, claimed that another goal of the talks was to forewarn Moscow against the use of nuclear or other WMDs.

The purpose of the conversations, they continued, was to “avoid the risk of escalation, maintain the lines of communication open, and not discuss access to a settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.”
It is noteworthy that Putin was warned throughout the Russian operation in Ukraine, and Russia has continued for seven months (and even before) that he would use nuclear weapons.

According to the Union of American Scholars, based on the quantity of nuclear warheads it possesses—5977 as opposed to 5428—Russia has the greatest nuclear force in the world.
The Russian forces also have about two thousand tactical nuclear weapons under operation, while America possesses about 200 of these weapons, half of which are deployed in bases in Italy, Germany, Turkey, Belgium and the Netherlands..
