The United Nations: The ceasefire must be committed in northwestern Syria

The United Nations issued an urgent request for all parties to respect all ceasefire agreements today, Sunday, in response to the intensification of violence in Idlib, in northwest Syria.
In a statement, the United Nations warned that civilians suffer from the tragic consequences of the continuation of hostilities in northwestern Syria, and all parties called for taking all possible steps to ensure that civilians are protection at all times.

The statement added that the United Nations had recorded the deaths of at least 121 civilians and 210 others as a result of hostile acts in the area since the year’s beginning. Nine people were killed and 77 injured when government forces struck West Idlib, according to a report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights earlier today. This suggests that missiles were killed in five camps.

The missile attack occurs the day after a faction of the “Headquarters for the Liberation of Al-Sham” attacked targets in the southwest of Idlib, resulting in the deaths of 5 members of the regime’s security forces.
About half of Idlib and a few small districts near the governorates of Hama, Aleppo, and Lattakia are under the influence of the Headquarters for the Liberation of Al-Sham and other resistance groups.

Three million people live in the area, with roughly half being displaced.
Notably, after a major assault by the regime forces during which they succeeded to seize control of half of the Idlib region, the factions’ control regions have been subject to a truce imposed by Moscow, an ally of the regime, and Turkey, which is supporting the battling groups.

Even while the truce is still substantially in place, the area occasionally experiences mutual bombing from various groups due to Russian and government army raids.

The United Nations demands that the northwest of Syria observe a cease-fire.
