Pointe-Claire’s last independent hardware store closing after 40 years in business

Steve’s Hardware, the last wholly independent hardware store in Pointe-Claire, is closing its doors after 40 years in operation. There are no plans for the business to be taken over by someone else as owners Steve Naday and his wife Toni Naday are retiring.
It was something we had always wished to do. Open a hardware business and offer the best possible service to the neighbourhood. And we’ve completed our tasks, ” Steve Naday stated.

For the past 40 years, many Pointe-Claire locals have made Steve’s their go-to hardware store.
“I never started in Reno, Rona, or anywhere else. Since you probably found what you wanted here at a lower price, I usually came here first, according to resident of Pointe-Claire Sharon Clark.
Regular customers claim that they were horrified to find that the store was closing.
“That is sad. since it is a mom-and-pop business. It is unique in every way. And it’s part décor, part hardware, part personal service.

It’s really a great spot to visit, Helene Borenstein told Global News.
Initially, the hardware-only shop in Plaza Pointe-Claire exclusively sold that. Gifts and home furnishings were gradually added to the shelves.
The pair praises the community’s years of support as being remarkable.

“It’s satisfying to see many folks who have had children and their children have grown up and are now returning and asking you if they remember me?” Toni Naday said.
Steve’s Hardware will close either by Christmas or when all of the already discounted inventory has sold out.
“I’m not sure what emotions I’ll experience, but I’ve had 40 years of wonderful experiences, okay? It’s now time to proceed. It’s challenging, but that’s the way things are, said Steve Naday.
