Former MP moves from politics to beer brewing in Sussex, N.B.

An ex-MP has decided to focus on Sussex, New Brunswick instead of Ottawa with a business endeavour into a craft brewery.
Alaina Lockhart served as the MP for Fundy Royal from 2015-2019, where she sat as the Parliamentary Secretary to Small Business and Tourism during that time.

The former politician said that brewery operations at Hand Forged Craft Beer have a different pace than sitting in Ottawa, but said that owning a small business is encompassing and that she has felt a need to get back into business after selling hers a number of years ago.
She said that the business prospered as a result of the community’s backing and expressed amazement at the volume of beer demand.

“I remember distinctly when I was interested in community leadership, (my husband) Rick has also been involved in that, so it’s always been important for us, and we’re able to approach things from different aspects,” she said. He is a skilled worker, and I enjoy uniting the neighbourhood.
Just prior to the COVID-19 epidemic, Alaina and Rick conducted some experimental brewing, primarily in a tiny taproom. However, the coronavirus’s arrival in New Brunswick paved the way for the current system.

Alaina asserted that “brewing is a fantastic method for a community to find its identity.”
They go together because Rick did a wonderful job of doing it.
I believe that any little community in New Brunswick can benefit from the backing of a craft brewery, as I’ve always said, said Rick.
The need was so tremendous that we had to expand even though we had started out extremely tiny and had no intention of doing so.
The two say they’re ready to settle on the expansions and are excited to perfect the batch..
