Days after release, suspect commits similar vandalism crime in Delta, B.C., police say

A North Delta man who was detained in Surrey 19 days prior for allegedly shattering windows at various establishments was later released by the courts after being charged with a car vandalism spree in Delta last month.
Martael Jeffery Joseph Plante, 53, was arrested in Delta on Oct. 29, after police responded to a mischief in progress call, and found citizens had restrained a suspect who used scissors to vandalize several cars.

According to Delta Police, the vandalism spree caused damage to 19 automobiles between the 11700 block of 84th Avenue and the 8300 block of Scott Road.
On October 11, a day after being detained by Surrey RCMP for allegedly engaging in yet another damage spree, Plante was released from detention with no bail requirements.
On Oct. 10, police responded to “multiple complaints of mischief to businesses allegedly committed by a man who was breaking windows,” Const. Sarbjit Sangha said in an email.

Plante was freed with restrictions on his movement from the locations of the alleged offences after being held in detention and charged with six charges of mischief under $5,000.
A warrant was issued for Plante’s arrest after he skipped court on October 19.
According to Sangha, the same person was detained by Delta police on October 29 for comparable offences.

Delta police are requesting anyone who was parked near 84th Avenue and Scott Road on the evening of October 29 to contact them if their vehicle was damaged. Police think more automobiles may have been destroyed in the most recent alleged crime spree.
Plante is still being held in custody for a court date on November 9 on five additional counts of mischief under $5,000.
