Chris Wood scores as Newcastle move to third in Premier League

Newcastle defeated Southampton 4-1 in the Premier League overnight to earn its sixth victory in the previous seven games.
After a terrific start to the season, Eddie Howe’s squad is emerging as a strong contender for Champions League qualification and perhaps more.
Following Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool this morning, it rose to third with the victory.

On the 35th minute, Miguel Almiron scored the game’s first goal by side-footing past Gavin Bazunu and into the bottom left corner after dodging an Ainsley Maitland-Niles challenge.
When substitute Chris Wood turned in the box and fired into the bottom corner, Newcastle’s advantage was doubled.
After some solid work from Kieran Trippier, Joe Willock added a low goal to make it 3-0 four minutes later.
Romain Perraud denied Newcastle a clean sheet as he drove into the area and fired into the top corner.

Southampton’s joy was short-lived, though, as Bruno Guimaraes quickly reacted and curled past a diving Bazunu.
