At least 19 dead after plane crashes into lake in Tanzania

As it neared an airport in Tanzania on Sunday morning (local time), a jet crashed into Lake Victoria, killing all 19 on board, according to the prime minister of that nation. According to a senior police officer, rain was falling when the plane crashed into the lake.
From the three fatalities that had previously been reported, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa increased the death toll.

26 of the 43 passengers on the Precision Air flight from the coastal city of Dar es Salaam were rescued and transported to a hospital, local authorities reported earlier on Sunday. It was unclear if those who passed away at the hospital were included in the revised death toll.
The plane, which was en route to Bukoba Airport, was captured on camera looking mostly buried in the lake. Tanzanian airlines operate under the name Precision Air.

William Mwampaghale, the police chief for Kagera Province, told journalists, “We have been able to save quite a number of individuals.”
“Problems and adverse weather were encountered by the aeroplane when it was around 100 metres above the ground. The jet crashed into the ocean while it was pouring, he claimed.
Mwampaghale said the rescue efforts were continuing..
