A hundred years ago, a team of archaeologists led by Howard Carter found the tomb of Tutankhamun and uncovered numerous “beautiful things” from ancient Egypt, among them the mummy of the boy king. CAIRO – 6 November 2022:
These findings revealed a wealth of details about Tutankhamun, who assumed the kingdom at around nine years old and passed away at around nineteen.
Although numerous research have looked at his corpse and numerous attempts have been made to reconstruct his face, the precise appearance of the pharaoh is still unknown.
A 2010 study of Tutankhamun and other mummies published in JAMA found that Tutankhamun was about 5 feet 6 inches (167 centimeters) tall, which indicates that Tutankhamun was rather on the shorter side.
Studies have shown that Tutankhamun died as a result of a variety of illnesses, including malaria, which caused him to experience foot swelling and other difficulties walking during his brief life. He also suffered from necrosis and death of bodily tissues, which broke the bone in his left foot, something that may have contributed to his death.
Tutankhamun appeared to be physically unwell; he limped, used a cane, and had malaria, according to Egyptologist and co-author of the JAMA paper Zahi Hawass.
He constructed a hunting mansion close to the Sphinx because he enjoyed hunting wild animals. He was physically fit enough, despite any health issues, to get into an accident and hurt his leg two days prior to his passing, according to Hawass.
Tutankhamun would have had a limp, a cranium that was slightly longer than average, and would have been “quite weak,” according to Hutan Ashrafian, clinical lecturer at Imperial College London.
