China protests Canada’s assumption of investment in lithium mining

According to a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Beijing opposes the limitations placed by Ottawa on three Chinese companies participating in lithium mining in Canada.
“China strongly opposes Canadian actions, which disrupt and obstruct normal trade cooperation between Chinese and Canadian firms under the guise of preserving national security,” the official continued.

“China will take all necessary steps decisively to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese firms, the official said.
In the past, for reasons relating to national security, the Canadian government ordered three Chinese enterprises to sell their assets in Canadian businesses engaged in the extraction of critical minerals, particularly lithium.

Sinomine was ordered by the Canadian government to liquidate its holdings in Power Metals Corp. and Chengze Lithium, and its stake in Lithium Chile Inc. was withdrawn. Zangge Mining was likewise urged by the Canadian government to abandon Ultra Lithium Inc.
