Urgent .. distribution of 185 thousand trees to the governorates in conjunction with the climate summit

Mr.

Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced that 185 thousand trees had been planted at the Agricultural Research Center in the governorates, the Desert Research Center, and the Central Administration for Affairs as part of President Abdel Fattah Al-initiative Sisi’s to grow 100 million trees. This initiative coincides with Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 climate summit, whose activities will be highlighted by a star-studded gala dinner.

Al-Qusayr added that the Ministry of Agriculture, through the Central Administration for the afforestation, had grown 300,000 trees in some tree forests and the vicinity of the ministry’s nurseries as part of the President of the Republic’s initiative, which was given significant attention by the Egyptian government. The initiative called for the expansion of afforestation due to its many environmental, aesthetic, and economic benefits, taking into consideration the local culture.

“Al -Qusayr” pointed out that the initiative aims to double the per capita share of green spaces at the level of the Republic, improve air quality, reduce global warming gases, achieve maximum economic benefit from trees, and improve public health for citizens.
The chairman of the agricultural counselling division, Dr. Alaa Azouz, stated that the “100 million trees” plan can be used as a beneficial investment that helps to slow down climate change.

The expected benefits and effects of the initiative’s implementation, he continued, include reducing the impact of global warming by releasing oxygen, lowering air temperatures, purifying the air and improving its quality, preventing soil erosion, maintaining biological diversity of birds, insects, and animals, which improves the vitality of agricultural areas, and preventing disease.
