The play was created by Adam Marbel, an assistant professor at the American University in Cairo, and it is based on 12 stories that depict the hardship that families experience as a result of climatic disasters such as desertification, floods, and forest clearance.
In a play lasting 40 minutes, Marble employs the storytelling technique to present the complex scientific data and statistics on how human emotions are affected by climate change. This is followed by a discussion with actors, staff, audience members, and scientists about the information and implications behind the play.
“Scientists do a really wonderful job of gathering facts and numbers,” claims Marble, “but in the end we need to give this the human aspect, we want to relate sentiments with these stories and what is happening to us.

With financing from the Creative Committee of the British Council in Egypt, the University of Exeter, the Meteorological Office, and the American University collaborated to develop the play “The Earth circles,” which is an adaptation of the movie’s plot (We Still A Chance: 12).
On the new played by the play, the actor Noah Abdel Razek told Sky News Arabia: “This production is different from any play that I participated in because it is a cooperative process, we make everything collectively. ”
Instead of using conventional platforms and heavy lighting, the team will employ lights, phones, and battery-powered lamps. Actors from the American University community participate in both the story’s production and the group-building process.
Abdel Razek asserts that “art is the best way to address any difficult topic, and in the theatre we interact with the feelings of the audience, and this may be the best way to attract people to listen and attention.” This assertion relates to the issue of the play, i.e., the climate, and its capacity to communicate his information to the general public.
” The play offers an opportunity to encourage people to environmentally friendly behaviors, according to Abdel Razek, who explains: “I feel that most people do not realize how much they need and use water, electricity and plastic. I believe it is my responsibility to take every possible step to lessen waste.
On November 2 and 3, the “Earth Turns” creators chose to exhibit it live and stream it online from the astronomical theatre in Tahrir Square at the American University of Cairo. On November 11, the event will be repeated at the COP27 International Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
