During a visit to Beijing on Friday, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz declared that he had asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to use his “power” to persuade Russia to halt its “aggressive attack” against Ukraine.
Asserting that “it is about the necessity of respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter that we all adhere to, and he was raised as sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is also important for China,” Schultz said, “I told the (Chinese) president that it is important for China to use its influence over Russia.”
In order to prevent a famine catastrophe, Cholts also urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to continue the arrangement that permits the safe transit of grain shipments from Ukraine.
“Understand the Russian President not to refuse to renew the grain agreement whose clamour expires within days,” he said to reporters during his visit to Beijing. “Hunger should not be used as a weapon.”
In another setting, the German advisor wanted “equal” trade and economic ties between his nation and China based on the idea of “reciprocity”.
Although “it is also evident to us that this is related to equal economic relations with the reciprocity of the problem of mutual openness to investment,” we do not “support the separation of” economic relations with China.
Schultz asks Putin to prolong the agreement on grain exports.
