Russia declared on Wednesday that it views Norway’s cooperation with other NATO members as provocative and warned that the country’s measures to bolster its military in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this year are likely to spell the end of its improving relations with Moscow.
According to Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow views the military preparations for Norway along its borders as a “route to heighten tensions” in the area.
Zakharova noted in a news release on Wednesday: “Foreign military bases started to show up in Norway on a regular basis. Modern equipment has been obtained, the appropriate infrastructure has been updated, and Oslo is now one of the countries that is most in favour of NATO involvement in the Arctic.
” Russian diplomacy pointed to the developments near the Russian border, considering that Oslo deliberately seeks to escalate tensions in the European polar region, and the final destruction of the Russian Norwegian relations.
Russia’s accusations about Norway were made public just one day after Norway boosted its military alert level in response to suspicious drone sightings.
With growing worries about potential Russian attacks on biological infrastructure, Norway detained numerous Russians, including the son of an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and accused them of using drones in Norwegian airspace or taking photos in restricted locations. According to Norwegian Rad, the Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas, Jahir Store Russia, advised against cutting it.
