German President in South Korea to hold political talks

Following his arrival in Seoul amid the rise in tensions on the Korean Peninsula, German President Frank Walter Steinmeier is expected to meet with South Korean President Yun Suk Yol on Friday.
Steinmeier, who arrived in the capital of South Korea with his wife, Ilke Bodenbander, is also expected to meet with Prime Minister Han Duk Soo for a political discussion.
Prior to it, the German presidential couple paid an official trip to Japan.

Since the end of September, North Korea has been testing missiles in response to worldwide condemnation.
The South Korean General Staff stated that three ballistic missiles were launched on Thursday morning, over the sea, and one of which is likely to be an intercontinental missile that can carry nuclear warheads.

Despite playing a primarily symbolic role, Steinmeier is expected to express Germany’s condolences following the death of more than 150 people in a stampede tragedy on Halloween in the Atwan area of the capital Seoul.

The German President is in South Korea for political discussions.
