Trudeau to meet with ministers on Haiti, says ‘we have to intervene’ somehow

Today, Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, will discuss the situation in Haiti with important cabinet officials.
The Incident Response Group, a group of cabinet ministers, only convenes when a situation has “significant ramifications for Canada.”
In the midst of severe violence and a deadly cholera outbreak, Trudeau claims that Canada is debating how to react to Haiti’s request for military assistance.

Although it says it won’t be leading such a response, the United States says it agrees with that idea and claims Canada would make a good leader.
Trudeau told reporters in French that despite the fact that many Haitians find the thought of a foreign military intervention unsettling, “we have to intervene in some way or another.”
Later today, the ambassador of Haiti to Canada is due to testify before the House of Commons foreign affairs committee.

Trudeau will discuss Haiti with ministers and declares that “we must intervene” in some way.
