Singapore confirms the depth of its relations with China

The visit of Chinese Vice President Han Cheng is a significant step in the ongoing process of requesting more intimate ties between Singapore and China, according to the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A day after Singapore and China signed 19 agreements in a summit meeting to deepen cooperation, according to Asia News, Cheng met with Singapore President Halima Yaqoub and Prime Minister Lee Hsin Long today, Wednesday. During the meeting with Singapore leaders, the two sides affirmed the excellent relations between the two countries.

Singapore and China have consistently “kept the momentum of high-level interactions in the Korona pandemic, including virtual meetings and bilateral visits,” according to the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
She continued by stating that Cheng’s two-day journey to Singapore was his first overseas excursion since the Corona pandemic’s outbreak and that he was the most senior Chinese official to travel to Singapore since the outbreak.

The ministry explained that the two leaders welcomed the growing and wide cooperation between the two countries in traditional fields such as financing, trade and investments, as well as emerging areas such as innovation, digital economy and green development.
The two sides decided to advance and promote bilateral cooperation in tandem with their development priorities, which would be advantageous for both their respective nations as well as the larger area.

The leaders also discussed regional and global issues, including as the challenges facing the world economy and climate change.

The strength of Singapore’s ties to China is confirmed.
